At L'Envol, we use LIGNIFY® plant-based vegan leather, an ethical and sustainable alternative to animal leather. This material is an eco-friendly and innovative next-generation material produced from lignin, a natural polymer found in plant cell walls.

What is LIGNIFY®?

Lignin is a natural polymer that makes up approximately 30% of plant cell walls. Along with cellulose, this polymer provides structural integrity to plants like trees and hemp, and generates approximately 100 million tons of waste annually in the paper industry.

LIGNIFY® transforms this waste into a high-quality vegan leather material — without using additional natural resources. It combines a sustainable vision with the elegance and versatility essential for modern leather applications.

Why LIGNIFY®?

1. DMF-Free, Water-Based Production

LIGNIFY® production does not use harmful solvents (DMF). The water-based process and production using biomaterials significantly reduce chemical usage.

2. Cellulose-Free

As the only cellulose-free plant-based leather on the market, LIGNIFY® has a much lower water absorption capacity compared to cellulose-based vegan leathers. This reduces the risk of degradation in humid environments.

3. Durable and Flexible

Lignin is naturally robust because it coats plant cell walls. This property gives LIGNIFY® strength, durability, and flexibility.

4. Water and Solvent Resistance

Thanks to lignin, LIGNIFY® is highly resistant to moisture and decay. It exhibits low biodegradability, offering durability and longevity.

5. Natural UV Protection

LIGNIFY®'s unique lignin-based composition provides natural UV protection. It absorbs harmful rays, protecting the material from sun damage.

6. Antibacterial

As a natural polyphenolic polymer, lignin exhibits antibacterial properties through direct contact with bacteria. It effectively inhibits microbial growth — a premium advantage for hygiene.

7. Color Fidelity

Since lignin is transparent in its natural state, LIGNIFY® presents colors in much truer tones than many traditional vegan leathers. The purity of the pigment maintains the vibrancy of every color in our collection.

8. Low Dependence on Natural Resources

Fewer natural resources and fewer chemical processing steps mean both eco-friendly and cost-effective production.

Local Supply Chain

In the production of LIGNIFY® in Turkey, every component is locally sourced and manufactured within a 200-kilometer radius. This process, carried out in the triangle of Gebze, Istanbul (Asia/Europe), and Bilecik, reduces the carbon footprint, contributes to the local economy, and enables direct quality control.
